A few weeks ago Reese was going for daily blood draws. Being that he was a brand new baby they would make a small cut on his heel and then milk it for blood. This seemed as painful as it sounds. It had gotten to the point where Reese would give a pitiful little cry when anyone would touch his little feet. A family meeting is when all the people from the different YWAM ministries get together to sing, pray, and listen to a message by the speaker for the DTS school that week. This week's speaker was Stefan Hugo, he is the head of YWAM Southern Africa. He shared a basic but significant, and importnat, message about judgement and grace.

It is difficult to believe that Reese is over a months old already. I cried last night when I was feeding him. I know he is going to grow up and leave us. The kids like to tease each other all the time.  I think perhaps it used to be fun teasing, but it has gotten to the point where kids are tearing each other down. David is at school, he came home yesterday red from a sunburn (or tan as he calls it). On Monday he teaches 4 P.E classes. He has been teaching the kids American football. According to him it is quite funny to see them throw the ball and then pop up like meerkats to see where the ball goes. Total weight gain: Around 15 pounds maybe? But David says I am all belly :)

How big is baby?: At our appointment last week Reese measured 17cm from crown to rump, so he is getting nice and tall. We are so proud! We had a long discussion over what side of the family he will take after, if my side then he will be a tall and really big boy!

It was pretty funny, but also very interesting. It is amazing to see how the kids act out the words on the cards. At first I thought is was going to be a disaster when I saw how the kids were acting out the words. It seemed like "physical gibberish" to me, but the kids were getting it!

Last weekend out church hosted an outreach with an X-games theme. The church we are attending has quite outreach focused. This morning all the staff, teachers, and students arrived. Some bright eyed, some bleary eyed. David and I have worked at CHS for one year now, it has flown by!

After showing him around a bit we went for a short hike in the hills around the base. We planned on going all the way to the top, but the rain has caused the lake to overflow and the plants to grow like nobody's business. It was tricky navigating between the weeds, and the SPIDERS!

After Maria passed away we were afraid that she may have menigcoccal meningitis, which is extremely contagious. The doctors were unable to tell us exactly what bug had killed her so it was a nerve wracking time. We will have a memorial service on Wednesday morning for Maria. Her mom has decided to have her funeral in the north of the country, about eight hours away from us. None of us will be able to attend. I know in my head that "death has no sting," but today it sure does sting. It is so surreal, we are their teachers so we teach the kids to read and do math. But we are here with so much more in mind. Maria is in grade 2, on Sunday she had a headache and a fever, on Monday she was committed to the hospital to the ICU. They did a CT scan today and found that her brain is swollen and is surrounded by fluid. They suspect meningitis but it is impossible to do a LP in her condition. They already think she will have brain damage if she survives this.

It was a lot of fun. We introduced them to UNO, they picked it up really quickly and they loved to play! They were quite intrigued by David's new old school lawn mower, (you know one of those push mowers with the blades) and they took turns using it. It was funny, and we got some of our weeds cut down :)

It is called All Nations Christian Church, it is a local church run by a German man and his South African wife. The church is attended by people from all over the world. The thing we love about this church is how friendly the congregation is. We got back from the coast last night. The weekend was a lot of fun. On Friday David and Adam both were sick, so we decided to stay one more night hoping that they would get better. On Saturday they felt better, so we made our own sand boards and headed out to Dune 7.

We are off to Swakopmund with the Wright's and with Marye. This is a long awaited weekend of relaxation and rejuvenation. The weather at the coast is perfect right now! We are staying at a Finnish missionary house, which also happens to be right on the beach! This break is coming at the exact right time, it has been a crazy busy and exhausting few weeks.

One of my favorite scenes in Lord of the Rings is when the sun shines on the fallen head of a statue of the King. For a moment the loss and pain of Sam and Frodo are lifted as they watch the King be crowned again.
Sitting here thinking about the gifts that God has given me this week makes me feel like that.
